Cortana, the voice-activated personal assistant that behaves in a similar manner to Apple's Siri, is coming to Windows 10.
It means that the Cortana service will be available on desktops for the first time, following its presence on Windows Phones. Cortana, named after the AI aiding the Master Chief in Halo, will fetch net-based data such as web results to weather reports. A demonstration showed a user queueing up their favorite music, and sending an email, all by voice commands alone.
Microsoft also announced that Cortana is now available in seven different languages. There are PC-specific tasks that Cortana can understand, and can run through the user's hard drives to fetch data that user s are looking for.
The new software was announced on Wednesday during a marquee Windows 10 event at Microsoft's headquarters in Redmond, Washington.
Microsoft also announced during the press conference that all Windows customers, from Windows 7 upward, can migrate to Windows 10 for free for the first year. The update also applies to Windows Phones.
